From precast shower shell to spacious walk in shower!

This was the second bathroom project that we undertook for these wonderful clients. They were so pleased with the first bathroom that we did, they wanted us back!

So this was a guest bathroom that didn’t quite fit their style and needed an upgrade. With the rest of the bathroom being in very good shape it was decided to just upgrade the shower. As functional as precast shower cubicles are and fairly simple to install, there is an awful lot of space wasted in the sides and back behind the cubicle and above it as well. It was so nice to remove it and open up the space! The framing that was there after we removed the old shell was not suitable for supporting the new Schluter waterproofing and the Unicom Starker 24″ x 48″ polished tile that we used and so some additional framing and blocking was required. The prep work that we do before we start the tiling is key to a shower that will last for years with minimum to no maintenance required!

Now no tile is classed as waterproof and certainly the grout in between the tiles is not waterproof at all and so we always install Shluter waterproofing (the orange stuff!) behind all our tiles. For us its the best on the market! A large product niche is a must these days! It helps to keep your products tidy and off the floor! The large format tile and the Riobel Pro shower fixtures in polished chrome complement the Maax double sliding shower doors, also in chrome, superbly!
