You may be wondering if there is enough ceiling height in your basement to install a fully functioning walk in shower. Looks can be deceiving! You may be surprised to hear that this basement bathroom is slightly under 7 feet (that’s less than 84″) high! It’s being used by a man who is 6 feet & 4 inches tall! He fits under the rain head in this stylish, roomy walk in shower with room to spare! A hand held, wall mounted shower is included!
We were asked to design a warm, comfortable, 3 piece bathroom with a walk in shower, vanity and toilet. It had to be easy to maintain and clean as it will be used as a guest bathroom for the in laws and friends when they come to stay! For me it was a no brainer! There is no exterior light and so good area LED pot lights were a must. Also a front lit mirror, with heat pad to stop the mirror from fogging up when the shower is being used, was added for direct facial light when using the vanity. A Schluter heated floor, fully programmable for warm feet and added warmth to the room was included.
A serious “must have” in a central basement bathroom with no external ventilation is a bathroom extractor fan with venting to move the moist air to the exterior as quickly as possible. We included for this as well. As we know, if not removed as quickly as possible, moist air in a bathroom leads to condensation and mould! Unsightly yes but more importantly unhealthy if allowed to grow!
At the time of designing this bathroom I had come across a new tile to the market that came in white with different coloured heavy veining. I was very impressed with it but I particularly liked the “Crash Blue” colour! I wanted to inject some style into the space and I thought this would work well for the shower walls and ceiling. It couples really well with the woodgrain porcelain planks on the shower and bathroom floor. An envelope cut shower floor and base tile where the floor meets the wall. All installed over full Schluter waterproofing throughout. Style and design to last a lifetime!
